The Megalodon shark (C. megalodon) is widely regarded as the largest shark that has lived on Earth and one of the largest predators in vertebrate history. The Megalodones roamed the seas for about 28 million years ago to 1.6 million years ago, when they were exterminated by the extinction of the Pleistocene period. It became extinct about two million years ago. This giant shark 90 metric tons (100 tons) inevitably destined to live in the popular imagination and scientists. The Megalodon lived in the vast majority of the world's oceans during the Cenozoic Era, which began about 28 million years ago.
